1. Plastic Straws are not Biodegradable! Most single use plastics straws, and other products, are usually either thrown in landfills or not properly disposed and head to our natural environments. These plastic wastes then take up to 200 years to decompose and even then when it becomes micro-plastics it still can leak chemicals such as BPA (Bisphenol A), which has been said to relate to health problems like skin allergies, headache, nausea, Vomiting, etc.

2. Most Common Plastic Straws are made from type 5 polypropylene plastic, PP for short, which is one of the most difficult plastics to recycle, because there are not many recycling facilities that are able to recycle these types of plastic. But Luckily there are some places in Metro Manila that can recycle this type of plastic for you!

3. The most common problems of Plastic straws in the past years is that these plastics are getting into our water ways and effecting our oceans creating harm to our animal species on land, air and seas. Some of these waste then gets pushed with the water currents making Garbage patches which birds and fish in our oceans mistake as food and eat then later on die from being unable to digest these materials.

Sea turtles are the most effected by this as they mistake plastic straws as either seaweed or kelp which they normally graze on. The sad truth is that most of these sea turtles that consume plastic straws do not survive.
